Your peace matters

For many people who have been raised in unhealthy environments or around unhealthy individuals, peace feels abstract.
Read blog: “Why peace feels abstract to you”
The normalised dysfunction consistently destabilised their outer world, which never allowed them to healthily regulate their internal world.
Because of this, many of us have become adept at managing our external environment, but in a maladaptive way.
We may have mastered lightening the mood to ease tension, being silent to avoid direct conflict, apologising for things that were never our fault or even saying ‘yes’ to unreasonable requests to prevent disappointing others, BUT what makes these behaviours maladaptive is the fact that we are doing them to the detriment of our own inner peace.
These behaviours may not feel toxic to the people who benefit from your silence, but they are certainly toxic to you.
They train you to diminish your own value, your own humanity.
You become afraid to take up space, afraid to speak up, afraid to voice an opinion or disagree.
Most of all, they rob you of your self-esteem, self-confidence, self-love and self-respect, to the point where you lose the ability to communicate in a healthy way, set boundaries and assert yourself.
Your peace matters. And, although it may not make feel like it at first, it is absolutely possible to preserve both your inner peace and the peace around you (in a healthy environment!!).
If your environment makes this feel like an impossible feat, then perhaps you need to re-evaluate it:
Who do you have around you?
How do they make you feel?
What behaviours and habits are normalised?
You should stay away from anybody who believes you are to be seen and not heard. Keep away from every and anybody that threatens your inner world.
Anybody trying to convince you that the appearance of external peace takes precedence over the reality of sustained internal peace is a direct threat to your sanity.
It can be a great challenge to resist negative programming and begin to reclaim your inner peace. However, once you remember that no one in this world is responsible for your peace except you, you start to take it more seriously and it becomes that much easier to push past the discomfort and take those first few steps.
