Everything you go through in life is pivotal in carefully crafting you into the valuable person you were born to be.
It can be easier to think of life in terms of seasons. Each one serves its own purpose:
Winter might look like stagnation, sadness, heartbreak, loneliness, or waiting.
Spring is full of learning, hope, opportunities and new beginnings.
Summer is about growth, abundance, success and reaping the fruits of your labour.
Autumn / Fall is for self-reflection, winding down and letting go of what will stunt your growth.
Some seasons may feel slow, repetitive and even painful. Others may be fast-paced and exciting. Of course, we enjoy the latter seasons, but it's important for us to remember the importance of balance.
Think about the life cycle of a tree, for instance. We enjoy the fruits that trees bear, but we would not be able to enjoy them had they not gone through the pain of enduring cold, rain, snow and shedding of leaves.
When we go through struggles, our forbearance is rewarded by inevitable future successes. Going through these tough times allows us the opportunity to appreciate the fullness of our lives. It gives us time to stop and reflect on what is valuable and, what needs to change inside or outside of us.
Pain gives us direction. The pain of loss, teaches us to value what we have while we have it. The struggle of having to wait and be alone teaches us to build and rely on the relationship we have with self.
Spending time feeling sorry for yourself and sulking about the temporary downs in your life, will only prolong the unpleasant seasons. Because the aim is to learn from the experience, not resent something that every human being must go through. Resistance to change will only prolong your suffering. Turn your difficulties into valuable life lessons. Your perseverance might even be able to inspire and motivate others down the line - you never know.
By the same token, the seasons we most enjoy are not merely for enjoyment-sake, they also serve a key purpose. They allow us time to acquire knowledge and give us the hope to spot new opportunities for it to be applied. We see the results of our hard work has paid off, confirming for us that we have increased our level of understanding and awareness.
Whichever season you find yourself in right now, REMEMBER that these seasons have no use unless you are actively trying to learn something from them.
No season is inherently good or bad, they are all crucial for your development in the long run. Though it may not always be pleasant, appreciate every season you go through, because when things change (and they will) they will NEVER be the same again, but you will be required to use what you learned to inform how you navigate the next stage of your life.
