All throughout our lives, we are pressured into following these imaginary guidelines and meet these urgent milestones by a particular point in our lives. We're supposed to: graduate from university by 21, earn a big salary by 23, move out of your parents home by 24, get married by 25, start a family and have a bunch of kids by 30...blah, blah, blah.
The moment your life reflects any sort of deviation from unspoken expectations, you are immediately subject to the endless interrogation:
"When are you going to get a job?"
"When are you going to get married?"
"When are you going to have a baby?"
This external pressure often causes us to internalise and set even higher expectations for ourselves, often to our own detriment. We panic and force things to happen right when we want them to happen. We close doors to opportunities that we don't think are for us, because they don't fit into the perfect 10-year plan.
Our impatience and frustration lead us into a state of crisis or depression when our lives don't meet societal expectations. Unfortunately, we fail to realise that these expectations were not created for our own individual benefit, rather they exist primarily for the purpose of population control.
Think about it, if the goal was for all of us to find ourselves, embrace our authenticity and realise our true potential, then things would be different. We wouldn't be so hasty to give each other labels and we wouldn't just tolerate everyone's differences, but we would truly accept and encourage our diverse paths in life through our words and our actions.
You shouldn't wait for society to give you a blueprint before you decide to trust that your life is on track. Put the work in to create the life that YOU want, while trusting in divine timing. Know that your life has taken these unexpected twists and turns for a reason. At this very moment, you are exactly where you need to be. Have faith that your current circumstances are crucial to your future successes.
