Challenges keep you balanced...but how?

I want you to reflect on the most recent big challenge you have faced.
Think about what happened, what emotions it stirred up within you and how you responded.
Now, I want you to think back to the type of person you were 5-10 years ago.
What kind of temperament did you have? How emotionally intelligent were you? How did you handle uncertainty? What did you understand about yourself? What did you understand about life and other people?
Now imagine that past version of you, with less experience and less understanding, being faced with your most recent big challenge.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that that previous version of you would most likely struggle or break under that kind of pressure.
So why have I asked you to put yourself through this thought activity?
Well, I want you to see for yourself, within your own life, that you have grown. Even if that growth is not necessarily tangible or evident to those around you, you are undoubtedly more experienced and knowledgeable than you were before.
Hopefully through this thought activity, you also understand these crucial lessons:
1) The biggest leaps of progress are made when you go through challenges
2) Character is built and tested through struggles
3) You can adapt to absolutely ANYTHING!
When you’ve been blindsided in the past and watched yourself somehow find a way through difficulty, you develop the ability to bounce back from setbacks.
And although challenges may seem inconvenient and off-putting, overcoming them is literally the ONLY way you can develop resilience and mental toughness.
I need you to see that adaptability is already a skill that you’ve developed unconsciously over time. When you understand this about yourself and know exactly what qualities you have been able to develop over the years, you can return to a more balanced state even quicker the next time unexpected things arise.
Reaching this level of self-mastery gives you freedom.
It gives you the confidence to laugh in the face of adversity, because you’ve been there before.
Even if the obstacle itself seems different, you already know that: firstly, panicking has never solved anything and, secondly, there is no challenge you haven’t and cannot overcome.
The key is to pay attention to yourself and the journey – not just where you want to be, but where you have already been.
Many of us have gone through a lot (and overcome it), but for the simple fact that we forget how much strength we truly have, end up panicking and breaking down every time a new obstacle appears.
We don’t realise that reacting like a victim with no control is actually what destabilises us, not the obstacle itself.
Why?
Because the panic is rooted in a lack of self-trust, a lack of self-belief and a lack of confidence.
So the next time something unforeseen pops up: stay calm, remember what you’ve already been through and tackle the obstacle like a pro 😎.
