Types of Discernment

As you grow in experience, you will realise there are different types of discernment. Each type has its own purpose and in order to make the best use of them, you MUST understand and consider certain things.


The different types of discernment are:


Spiritual Discernment


PURPOSE: Protecting your energy


You MUST understand:

• how your intuition communicates with you

• how energy works

• how to raise your vibration


Signs you are lacking in this area:

• ignoring strong feelings about people, situations and important decisions

• feeling drained but unsure why


Considerations:

• What protective spiritual practices do you have in place and when should you do them?

• Who has spiritual access to you?

• Who can you share spiritual practices with? (e.g. praying together)

• Where is it safe to do your spiritual practices?


♥️ Emotional Discernment


PURPOSE: Regulating your emotional environment


You MUST understand:

• emotional intelligence

• distribution of emotional energy

• purpose of emotions

• emotional maintenance strategies (pg Original Volume)


Signs you are lacking in this area:

• frequent irritability and anger

• general discontentment

• feeling burdened by everybody else's issues

• anxiety


Considerations:

• Who can you be emotionally vulnerable with?

• Which emotions are actually yours and which ones have been absorbed from others?

• When is your emotional state indicative of a deeper-rooted problem (e.g. trauma)?

• Which emotions should you express, to whom, when and how?

• How do you take care of your emotional environment?


🧠 Mental Discernment


PURPOSE: Guarding and strengthening your mind


You MUST understand:

• de-programming and re-programming the subconscious mind

• mental health

• the patterns of your mind (baseline vs fluctuations)


Signs you are lacking in this area:

• scattered thoughts

• anxiety

• depression

• ruminating thoughts


Considerations:

• How do certain people/activities/lifestyle practices affect your mental health?

• Which thoughts are genuinely yours and which may be implanted or taught?

• Which thoughts should you keep to yourself and which should you share and when?

• Where is the line between processing thoughts and rumination?


🧍🏿‍♀️Physical Discernment


PURPOSE: Protecting your body


You MUST understand:

• boundaries

• body language

• situational awareness

• social cues


Signs you are lacking in this area:

• feeling unsafe in your own body

• inability to enforce physical boundaries (RE: handshakes, hugs, touching your hair etc)


Considerations:

• Do you know how to de-escalate situations?

• What makes you physically uncomfortable?

• What boundaries do you need to set?

• Do you allow people you like to break your boundaries?


👥 Social Discernment


PURPOSE: Building a healthy social circle and support system


You MUST understand:

• your own social disposition

• psychology

• how to navigate social situations


Signs you are lacking in this area:

• frequent involvement in drama

• struggling to read people and situations

• allowing your social battery to drain


Considerations:

• Do the people around you add value to your life?

• Which social events should you attend?

• Are you in a place where you are truly appreciated?

• What does healthy behaviour look like?
