Sneaky Signs of Disrespect You May Not Recognise...

Disrespect can be evident at times, but other times it can be very insidious and confusing...

1) Public Criticism & Private Praise

A person who chooses only to correct you in front of others and praise your efforts behind closed doors wants to keep you confused and low on confidence. This is classic gaslighting.

They don't respect you as a person and they want others to know how unimpressed they are with you as well.

2) Public Praise & Private Criticism

Alternatively, a person who constantly criticises you in private, but praises you in public wants to gaslight you and control the narrative in a different way.

They want to confuse you by letting you know that they don't respect you as a person, but want to still want to make others believe that they have a good relationship with you.

3) Making Silent Assumptions

When you don't know someone very well, it is only courteous that you give them a chance to show who they are as a person BEFORE passing judgement onto them. But a person who passes judgement early on has no plans to respect you.

They don't respect you enough to allow you to prove your character. Everything they learn about you will be interpreted through their prejudicial lens.

4) Trying to "Sweet Talk" Past Your Boundaries

Anyone who has your boundaries and sees them merely as hoops that can easily be jumped through has no respect for you as a person.

They believe that you can easily be manipulated to bend to their will.

Be very wary of this type of individual.

5) Unsolicited Personal Advice

When someone, especially a person you haven't made much acquaintance with, decides to give you some personal advice that you were not seeking, it can sometimes be a sign of a lack of respect.

Especially if you have already made up your mind and they try to persuade you to change it, they are devaluing your decision-making abilities and placing themselves as an authority over you.
