4 Reasons a Person Might Be Disrespectful

Disrespect often has little to do with the person on the receiving end.

Although intentional disrespect cannot be justified, there can be different reasons behind it...

1) Insecurity

They may feel inadequate as a person, leading them to give in to feelings of jealousy.

From their perspective, the one way to bring you back down to their level or stop you from feeling so confident is to disrespect you, so you no longer think so highly of yourself.

2) Prejudice

Often when we experience disrespect, especially when we KNOW we've done nothing to provoke such behaviour, it can be traced back to that person's deep-rooted prejudice.

A person who holds strongly to their own prejudice, can easily view themself as above you simply due to a difference in appearance or background.

3) Trauma

A person who has been surrounded by dysfunction for much of their life may be desensitised to disrespectful behaviour and the hurt they inflict on others.

4) Resentment

When your relationship with someone is becoming tense and there is a lack of open and honest communication, a build of resentment can manifest itself through disrespectful behaviour.
