Reasons You Struggle to be Resilient

Resilience is a skill that we all need in order to thrive, but here's why you may be struggling to develop it...

1) You're naturally gifted 🎁

That's right!

When you are naturally good at many things, you become accustomed to not having to work as much for things in general.

This can get you into the bad habit of solely relying on your innate gifts rather than working to develop yourself further.

This puts you at a major disadvantage when setbacks arise, because you don't anticipate them and therefore have very little practice in tackling them.

2) You don't step out of your comfort zone🪜

Comfort can be a good thing. It means you feel safe and gives your nervous system the opportunity to relax.

HOWEVER, when your comfort zone becomes a crutch is when it impaired your ability to be resilient.

You can only build up your resilience if you practise handling uncomfortable situations, which only take place OUTSIDE of your comfort zone.

If you don't try anything new or anything that makes you even a little bit nervous then you'll always be ill-equipped to handle bigger challenges when they arise.

Start small and grow from there and you'll eventually see how much more of a resilient person you've become.

3) Lack of discipline 🦥

Resilience relies on your discipline.

If you haven't practised training your mind to bear short-term discomfort for long-term gain, any struggle becomes a great difficulty to manage.

You have to practise suppressing your ego (immediate desires) in order to feed your higher self (long-term benefits).

For example, if you're going through a period of financial difficulty, your ability to exercise discipline by not buying fast food as frequently will make your situation more manageable.

In this example, lacking discipline and refusing to compromise that convenience for your own long-term benefit, may lead you to add to the financial difficulty, which in turn would make it more difficult to bounce back from that situation.

Doing this on a daily basis builds up your resilience little by little.

Examples could be:

• intermittent fasting

• choosing to meditate before bed instead of scrolling through your phone

• drinking water first before your morning coffee.
