Misconceptions About Purpose

The journey to discovering ourselves is littered with many misconceptions about what purpose is and what it means to pursue it.

1) You only have one purpose

You were born with many gifts. And each gift can be used individually or in combination with the others in order to bring value to yourself and others in a variety of ways.

Don't force yourself into one box by believing you should walk one specific path in one specific way.

2) You have to figure it out early

Life is about learning. In order to understand the role you can play in the world, you have to learn about yourself, others and the world itself. This takes time...which you have plenty of.

Considering that most people go their whole lives without carving out a place for themselves in the world, it would be unrealistic to expect yourself discover yours so early.

3) It makes life easy

In whatever you do, you will always be faced with challenges. That's just the nature of life. Living in your purpose won't excuse you from difficulties.

In fact, you may even face more difficulty, because of the fact that you're not following the norms and conventional ways of society.

The key difference, however, is that you'll be more willing to work through these challenges, because you have an end goal and a vision.

4) Money is tied to your purpose

Because of the society that we're in, money often plays a role in our ability to fulfill our purpose. But we mustn't use money as the parameter to measure how successfully we are carrying out our purpose.

It can be nice to have, but just because you are making a lot of money, it doesn't mean that you are living out your true purpose. By the same token, not having much money doesn't mean that you're not.
