Does copying them bring you any closer to yourself?

You know, working out who you are is hard and takes time.
But do you know what makes it even more difficult than it already is?
Other people.
Yup. Unfortunately, that’s the cold, hard truth.
Many times, we rely on external examples to appear for us to emulate in order to navigate certain environments.
Although there’s nothing wrong with modelling after admirable traits within others, it becomes a hindrance when it crosses over into blind conformity.
Blindly copying others, whether it be their beliefs, habits or behaviours etc, will always confuse your identity because everyone does things for different reasons.
By not knowing someone’s ‘why’ behind what they do and following them anyway, you are allowing yourself to be led down a path that may not even be for you.
This is a sure-fire way to limit your own potential because, unconsciously, you begin to see yourself as an example of what NOT to do.
You start to villainise how you are by nature and outsource everything you should be looking for within.
This slowly chips away at your confidence and teaches you to be dependent on others, rather than acknowledging that all the tools you need are already inside of you. You just need to focus inwards in order to access them.
Instead of waiting for another person to act so you can copy them, observe yourself first. Even in unfamiliar circumstances, there must be some characteristics and traits within yourself that you can draw from.
Trust that you have what it takes to navigate life as the truest version of yourself.
