What is Emotional Intelligence?
Your emotional intelligence is also known as your EQ or Emotional Quotient. It is your ability to manage your emotions in a healthy way and navigate those of others.
So how does authenticity help you get better at these skills?:
1) Self-Reflection
Simply tuning in to your emotional state on a situational basis brings you one step closer to being able to manage your emotional environment.
2) Validation
You are able to identify and validate your emotions, so you are able to move through the intense wave of emotions a lot quicker. This allows you to use logic to then respond appropriately, rather than react irrationally.
3) Empathy
Effectively handling your own emotions means that you then have the capacity to understand situations from other people's point of view. This can make you a great leader, problem-solver and rapport-builder.
4) Diminishes Ego
Understanding that everyone is responsible for their own emotions and their subsequent behaviour, allows you not to take things personally. Hence, your internal emotional environment remains balanced regardless of external circumstance or other people's behaviour.
5) Managing Others
You can already manage your own emotions well, and also understand that we, as humans, are emotionally motivated. So you use this knowledge to guide the behaviour of others (responsibly) and create a suitable outcome for everyone. This quality makes you a great leader.
***
Mastering our emotions is probably one of the hardest things we have to do as human beings. It's a battle we must fight everyday. Some battles you win, some battles you lose, but we must NEVER stop trying.
The more we practise, the better we get at it 💛
