1 Reason Authentic People May Still Need to Lie

Although lying sounds less than authentic, there is a big reason why authentic people may still need to bend the truth...
1) Safety & Survival
No matter how honest of a person you think you are, you cannot be blind to the realities of this world. There are critical moments when your safety takes priority over the truth.
EXAMPLE: If you're solo travelling in a new area and a person, whose body language indicates a potential threat to your safety asks if you are alone, your options are to:
A) tell the truth and risk potentially being a victim
OR
B) telling a lie (e.g. you're meeting with someone in a moment) that will likely deter their potentially untoward motives
Authentic people are still people; and while they strive to be truthful as much as possible, there are few situations where a lie may be necessary to protect their safety.
Danger does not account for honesty. You don't get brownie points for telling the truth and putting yourself in danger. Your life is your responsibility, so if dishonesty can protect you for a small moment in time, it does not take away from your morality.

NB: There a times when telling a lie can protect you and there are times when it could unnecessarily alienate people and potential opportunities. Your ability to interpret context in real time is incredibly important when it comes to making this distinction.
